I hated getting changed in the boy’s locker room in high school. I’d often sit and wait until nobody was looking to take off my shirt. I didn’t even like gym class because back then boy’s teams were divided into shirts and no shirts. The other kids didn’t know what they were doing to me psychologically when they pointed at me and told me I had nice boobs.
I tried several fad diets after high-school that worked for a little while, but when I got stressed out or something dramatic changed in my life, I went back to food for comfort. I worked out regularly at a gym and had become strong, but I couldn’t out-train the amount of poor quality food that I was eating. I lacked the knowledge to train smart and eat for performance. I didn’t know it then, but I had no self-confidence.
It took a lot of growing up, reading books and seeking out several fitness certifications to learn about fitness, nutrition and mental strategies. For years I would go play hockey only to head to McDonald’s right afterward for a supersize fries, burger and pop.
All of that changed for me ten years ago when I met my wife, Chris, who motivated me to become a healthier person, even if she didn’t know she was doing it at the time. I adopted my first son, James into my heart and a couple of years later my son Matthew was born. My family continues to motivate me to stay in good health and after nine years there haven’t been any signs of returning to my former weight. I want to be part of my families lives when I’m 100 and when I’m 100 I want to be moving well and playing with my grandkids or perhaps even great grandkids. I don’t want to just be alive.
My motivation was my family and I executed my mission to lose weight by reading books and committing to the process. Now I want to help other people do the same. I want to help people build self-confidence. I want to change people’s lives as much as I can by making them a soldier in their own lives, with a good fitness program, proper eating strategies and an unbreakable mindset.
