What is your why?

 

If you’ve heard me speak, you know I talk a lot about the psychology behind the things that we do. I believe every response we have to hardship or adversity in our lives are governed by our mind. Stories of incredible feats and impossible recoveries are always by people who had the right mindset and refused to believe in the averages.

Getting really fit, on average, makes you an anomaly. Among your friends and others, you might think being fit is normal, but it really isn’t. Most people are overweight (one in two adults and one in six children according to the OECD 2017) and out of shape – poised to inherit a lot of diseases and cancers if they don’t change. There are so many reasons to be healthy and functional outside of the cosmetic.

At the heart of obesity is fitness and nutrition. But why is it so hard to lose the weight you want to lose?

I believe people spend too much time working on the how and not enough on the why.

In eleven days, a group of us are headed out into the Algonquin Park Barron Canyons for 3 days to not only undergo some physical challenges, survival strategies and see incredible sights, but to find our reason why. Why do we want to lose weight? Why do we want to get into better shape? What are our limiting beliefs? How do we go about getting more functional and eating better? Only when we know our own psychology and patterns, can we hope to change them.

At Survivor IV I’ll talk in detail about all aspects of human performance and athleticism and candidates will get some experience in all of them:

  1. Survival
  2. Fitness (tools of the trade)
  3. Nutrition
  4. Functional Movement
  5. Meditation

If you step outside your comfort zone and go into nature, to a place where you can spend some time discovering who you are – you might just find the answer. With guided instruction and plenty of note taking, you’ll discover the pieces that might change your life or in the least open your eyes to the possibilities and give you strategies you need to be successful.
