“I used to go to the gym whenever I felt like it and didn't always put 100% into my workouts, I needed a change... I needed someone to hold me accountable. I needed a challenge. I started looking for fitness boot camps and came across Soldiers of Fitness. I read about the program and asked my sister to join with me; she also wanted to lose weight and be more active. So we took the plunge and signed up in May 2013. I was terrified the first week, I have trouble going out of my comfort zone and get anxiety when in unfamiliar situations which was exactly what SOF was, but the troops were very welcoming and supportive of every fitness level. Being part of a group held me accountable for my fitness, I was part of a team now and if I slacked others would have to pick up that slack. It motivated me to work harder, push through my comfort zone and really see what I was capable of on my own as well as part of a team. During the summer I was no longer able to go to the lunch class but there was no way I was going to stop SOF so I decided to do IFT classes with Cpl. During these sessions Cpl pushed me even farther out of comfort zone but it was good because it made me want it more. He knew what I was capable of but demanded more pushing me to test my physical strength as well as my emotional strength, by the end of each session I left feeling exhausted but with a sense of pride of what I was able to accomplish. This carried over into everyday life I started to have more confidence in myself and what I was capable of. I felt emotionally and physically stronger, leading me to not shy away from a challenge or change. As of today I have been part of SOF for 2.5 years and have loved every minute of it, even when it hurts. I have lost 20-25 pounds since starting and have taken part in 3 SOF survivors which are the most emotionally and physically exhausting things I have ever had to do. I have also participated in races, obstacle course races and dragon boat. My mind, body, and lifestyle have transformed and represent a healthier, positive, confident me! ”
